The Washington Insurance Commissioner fines Unite Health $500,000!
Latest News from LiveinsuanceInfo.com: Washington Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler fines Unite Health over $500,000 in May and June for violating state insurance laws and regulations. This includes a $300,000 fine on Unite Health Share Ministries for illegally acting as an insurer within Washington.
Commissioner Kreidler’s investigation was initiated after he received a complaint that Unite Health paid out only $5,000 on an insured’s medical claim, allegedly leaving the insured with a medical bill of nearly $200,000.
Insurance Commissioner fines Unite Health
The Insurance Commissioner’s Office says United Health describes itself as a healthcare-sharing ministry but fails to meet the legal definition under state law. What Unite Health did was act as a completely unauthorized insurer. Between 2019 and 2023, Unite Health collected nearly $2.9 million in membership fees from Washington residents, leaving them with $74,999 in unpaid premium taxes.
We have given UniteHealth 90 days to request these hearings on our behalf. This also includes other fines and offenses recorded in May and June. Such as:
First Premier Home Warranty Corp., Brooklyn, NY; $50,000 fine.
First Premier submitted a service contract provider application to Kreidler’s office in August 2022. Still, it did not include the necessary documentation to complete the process. The company sold 22 service contracts, received $20,859.22 in payments, and paid out $5,549.83 to insured individuals without being registered in Washington.
The other fines imposed are as follows:

- Allstate Fire and Casualty Insurance Company, Northbrook, Illinois; $25,000 fine
- Zurich American Insurance Company of Illinois, Schaumburg, Illinois; $1,000 fine
- American Zurich Insurance Company, Schaumburg, Illinois; $1,000 fine
- Towers Administrators LLC, Middletown, Del.; $25,000 fine
- James Bischoff, Las Vegas, Nevada; $1,000 fine
- United of Omaha Life Insurance Company, Omaha, Nebraska; $3,000 fine
- Gadget Guard, LLC; $30,000 fine
- Washington, Seattle, Wash. Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Pennsylvania; fined $30,000
- Apogee Insurance Group, unlicensed; fined $7,500
- RLI Insurance Company, Peoria, Illinois; fined $5,000
- State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, Bloomington, Illinois; fined $25,000
- Blue Star Gas – Seattle Company, Tukwila, Wash.; fined $3,000
- Jeffrey H. Franco, Blaine, Wash.; fined $2,000
